Ya’ll ever had Chiggers? It sucks!

I recently got a TON of chigger bites all over my body. I did some research and got rid of them within a few days so, let’s clear some things up about chiggers:

• Do they burrow in your skin?

  • No. They bite, feed on skin cells, and are usually brushed off or fall off. That bite creates a reaction in many people which results in red raised bumps that itch like hell.

• Where do chiggers live?

  • In the woods either in soil or on saplings and other plants low to the ground. They stand on leaves (pictured above) and wait for animals to brush by and the barbs on their legs latch on to fur or clothing.

• How big are they?

  • Tiny. Almost too small to see.

• How do I prevent chigger bites?

  • Use strong bug spray, where layers, or just avoid the deep woods all together (stick to paths).

• I got chigger bites, how do I get rid of them quickly/ prevent itching?

  • Don’t itch, that will make them irritated and worsen the itching

  • Use witch hazel (aloe and toner) to clean them and dry them, benadryl cream to help itching subside, and alcohol to dry them out further.

  • Cold baths on feet and ankles

I truly hope this helps. Chigger bites are the worst. (well, poison ivy is definitely worse)

I recently stumbled upon this awesome youtube channel Blacktail Studio. Very popular channel and he created a website similar to Airbnb where you can rent out your wood shop/ tools to people who want to use it.

Not only can you look for woodworking shops but metalworking as well. You pay a certain rate to the person who owns the shop in exchange for access to all their tools.
